Taxpayer Registry (CPF)

Brazilian nationals, as well as foreigners, residing abroad and whose assets in Brazil are subject to public registration (such as properties, vehicles, boats, airplanes, partnership, bank accounts or investment in the financial market) must register with the “Cadastro de Pessoa Física”- CPF (Taxpayer Registry)

A CPF number is granted only once. It is not possible to apply a second time.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

- Duly filled and signed “Ficha cadastral de Pessoa Física” (form for natural persons residing abroad), available at http://www.receita.fazenda.gov.br/Aplicacoes/ATCTA/CpfEstrangeiro/defaulting.htm

- Take the form and the original and a copy of the following documents to the Brazilian Consular Service with jurisdiction over your area:

I – identification document accepted in the country of residence that states the individual’s parenthood;
II – identification document of one of the parents, tutor, curator or legal guardian, as well as a document that makes proof of parenthood, tutelage or guardianship in case of application for registry of a minor under 16 years of age or an incapacitated individual;
III – identification document of the attorney and a public, notarized power of attorney document, in case the application is submitted by an attorney.

Important notice: the request for registration of minors or incapacitated individuals must be signed by one of the parents or tutor, curator or guardian whose responsibility has been assigned by a judicial decision.

Documents will be sent by the Consulate General to “Secretaria da Receita Federal” (Brazilian Inland Revenue).

1 - Go to www.receita.fazenda.gov.br
2 - Click on “Cadastros” , then on “CPF”, then on “Andamento Pedido”, then on “Local de Atendimento”
3 - Select “Exterior”
4 - Enter “Código de Atendimento” and “Data de Atendimento” as shown on your receipt

Lost Cards
Applications for a copy (“segunda via”) can only be submitted in Brazil.
