Eligibility:
* Pursue scientific and/or technological activities under the umbrella of an international cooperation program.
* Pursue professorial studies/research and/or scientific/technological activities at a university, research institute or similar organization.
* As a student trainee/unpaid intern benefiting from a scholarship under the umbrella of a program sponsored by a Brazilian governmental agency, an international organization, or an authorized exchange student’s institution.
* Receive training in Brazil as a young amateur athlete (under 21 year old athletes).
* Receive technical training in the operation and/or maintenance of machinery or equipment produced in Brazil.
* Community services and volunteering activities.
* Medical treatment in Brazil.
Whenever planned stay exceeds 90 days, VISA I holders must register with the Brazilian Immigration Authority (Federal Police – DPMAF) within 30 days from first arrival in the country, by submitting the passport along with an original visa application form that will be returned to the applicant by the Consulate General.
Visa I holders are prohibited from holding any paid job in Brazil. A professor, scientist, or researcher pursuing activities at a university, research institute or similar organization is allowed to be paid a “pro labore” by a Brazilian party for short term activities (no longer than 30 days). Scholarship payment by a Brazilian party is otherwise permitted. Payment of travel, accommodation and living expenses is permitted, where applicable.
Brazilian documents to be presented must be notarized in Brazil. Chinese documents must be notarized by FAO and legalized by the Consulate General. Legalization fee will apply.
This type of visa requires prior authorization from the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations. Consultation fee will apply.
Requirements:
- Applicant’s passport, valid for no less than six months from the date of expiration. The passport must have at least 3 blank visa pages;
- One recent individual passport-sized photograph, full frontal, white background.
- One visa application form, duly filled out, signed by the applicant (parents must sign for minors under 18 years old). The application form can be filled out on the site below https://scedv.serpro.gov.br/frscedv and must be printed out, on sheet size A4.
- Proof of residence, for at least one year, in the area of jurisdiction of the Consulate General, if the applicant’s passport has been issued elsewhere in China.
- Minors under 18 years of age:
a) original birth certificate;
b) a legalized letter of consent signed by both parents or legal guardian(s).
- If the applicant is of criminally liable age, and whenever the intended stay exceeds 90 days, a recent non-criminal record, legalized by the Foreign Affairs Office (FAO).
Additional requirements, as applicable:
For scientific and/or technological activities under the umbrella of an international cooperation program:
a) copy of the international agreement,
b) proof of professional expertise and
c) a letter from the sponsoring organization:
- informing activities to be pursued by the applicant;
- attesting its responsibility for repatriation of the applicant (and his/her family, if the case) once the visa expires or the agreement ceases to exist, and
- stating that the applicant will not receive any payment from a Brazilian part.
For professorial, research or scientific activities:
a) a letter from the Brazilian sponsoring organization informing activities to be pursued, pecuniary conditions, and – whenever applicable – a copy of the “Portaria” (Ordinance) that authorizes such research activities.
Please note that:
- the collection of biological and mineral material requires prior authorization by the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq);
- carrying out activities in indigenous areas requires prior authorization from the Fundação Nacional do Índio (FUNAI).
For exchange students:
a) a letter from school, college or university in Brazil confirming student’s enrollment or acceptance, and informing the duration of studies.
b) proof of financial capability to pay for the stay in Brazil;
c) a letter from the sponsoring Brazilian exchange student program organization, stating the student’s inclusion in the program, name and location of the educational institution, as well as the address, names and qualification of responsible parties of “hosting family” in Brazil.
d) copy of the Brazilian exchange student program organization bylaws, and its Cadastro Nacional de Pessoal Jurídicas. – CNPJ.
For interns:
a) a copy of agreement (“termo de compromisso”) between the intern and the Brazilian organization or institution, attesting to the conditions for internship, scholarship and the required involvement of a Brazilian government agency, international cooperation organization, or authorized exchange organization (in this case, attach a copy of its bylaws (social statutes – “estatuto social”), official registration and Cadastro Nacional de Pessoas Jurídicas – CNPJ).
For athletic training:
a) copy of agreement/contract with the Brazilian organization, where training will take place. The agreement, that can be up to 12 months, must state the availability of:
- place of training;
- room and board, as well as any additional living expenses.
b) copy of document(s) attesting to the following: confirmation of training for applicant for a specified period, maintenance conditions and guarantee of repatriation of applicant once the visa expires.
For technical training on the operation or maintenance of equipment or machines made in Brazil:
a) a letter from the employer, attesting to the fact that the applicant will not receive salary or payment of any kind by a Brazilian party,
b) a letter from the Brazilian company where the training will take place informing the nature of the training to be provided and attesting to the fact that it will be hold responsible for the applicant while in Brazil.
* Both letters must be on the company’s letterhead or stationary.
For community services and volunteering activities:
a) document proving applicant’s professional experience or qualification compatible with activities to be carried out in Brazil;
b) letter of invitation issued by the Brazilian sponsoring organization, attesting to the conditions of the trip – pecuniary conditions, type of services to be provided, and locations where volunteering will be pursued;
c) written statement from the Brazilian sponsoring organization guaranteeing maintenance of volunteer in Brazil and his/her repatriation at term;
d) term of responsibility from the Brazilian sponsoring organization guaranteeing payment of all hospital and medical expenses of applicant and his/her dependents while staying in Brazil;
e) copy of the Brazilian sponsoring organization by-laws (that is, social statutes, “estatuto social”);
f) act in which the organization’s directors were nominated, and proof that it is in existence;
g) copy of the Brazilian sponsoring organization’s registration at the “Conselho de Assistência Social” or whenever applicable, certificate qualifying as an organizations of public interest issued by the Brazilian Ministry of Justice.
Notes:
- all Brazilian documents must be notarized in Brazil;
- all Chinese documents must be legalized by the Consulate General (legalization fees apply);
- all documents received will be relayed to the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations for approval.
Medical treatment in Brazil:
a) a letter from the applicant’s medical doctor recommending the treatment,
b) proof of financial capability fro the treatment and maintenance during stay in Brazil;
c) copy of a Brazilian or international health insurance valid for the treatment in Brazil.
NOTE: The requirements listed above should not, in any way, be considered all-inclusive. The Consulate General may request additional information, as deemed necessary.
